Bantwal: PFI, SDPI activists protest without permission at Kaikamba, case filed

Bantwal, Dec 26: The Bantwal town police on Thursday February 26 filed a case against 30 activists of PFI, CFI and SDPI for unlawfully gathering at Kaikamba and holding a flash protest without permission.

At around 7 pm on Thursday, the activists assembled at Kaikamba and started shouting slogans on handheld speakers. The protesters created nuisance for vehicles and people travelling on the national highway, police said.

On receiving information, Bantwal police rushed to the spot and warned the activists against protesting without permission. However, the protesters did not budge and continued to raise slogans.

The police however managed to disperse the protesters after warning them of action.

The protest was led by Fahad Perliya, Bantwal president of Campus Front of India (CFI), Isaac Shantiangady of SDPI, Nausheer alias Nauchi, a resident of Shantiangady, and Ashraf, a resident of Muda.

It is not certain if anyone was taken into custody.

A case has been registered in Bantwal police station.

A week ago, Mangaluru saw violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), during which protesters pelted stones and petrol bombs, and police resorted to lathi-charge and opened fire, claiming two lives. In view of the recent events, the police have maintained strict security in sensitive areas around the district.
