Mumbai: More than 40 thousand police personnel deployed during celebrations

Mumbai, Dec 31: 2,500 traffic police will be looking out for traffic offenders while more than 40 thousand police personnel will ensure that celebrations of New Year's eve will be peaceful across the city tonight. Loudspeakers and fire crackers will be allowed till midnight.

Anti eve teasing squads will be vigilant in the crowded areas as there is concern of sexual harassment in the guise of New Year celebrations. Police will be available on telephone number 100. There are appeals by the police to taxi unions and private cabs to run services at night for the convenience of people.

There will be police crackdown from Tuesday evening till early morning on Wednesday, on drunk driving, rash driving and speeding.

Traffic police have collected information from the aggregator cabs, the places from where they received most of the booking on December 31, 2018. Bars are allowed by the state government to conduct business till 5 am and wine shops till 1 am on January 1.
