Mumbai: 778 motorists booked for drunk driving on New Year's eve

Mumbai, Jan 2: Mumbai Police booked 778 motorists for drunk driving on New Year's eve, a figure which is higher than the 455 motorists who were booked in 2018.

"We checked a total of 5,338 motorists and the drive continued till 6 am on January 1. Among those booked for drunk driving were 578 two-wheeler riders and 200 four-wheeler drivers," said joint commissioner, traffic, Madhukar Pandey.

Over 2,400 traffic police personnel were out on the streets and checking was strict which began around 7.30 pm. Reportedly, Dahisar Chowky recorded over 58 cases of drunk driving, the highest in the city.
