Bangalore, Oct 9: Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras has expressed happiness over US President Barack Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

He has said that a man who has pledged reduction of the world stock of arms with the intention to promote world peace and to reduce tension and suspicion between nations and between communities truly deserves such an honor.  He has expressed more happiness over Barrack Obamas response that there are many more people who deserve to be awarded for their efforts to promote peace.  In a world torn apart by violence and bloodshed, people who recognize the need for peace must be applauded and supported.

The Church is appreciative of anyone who strives for the promotion of peace in the world and peace between people of different faiths. We should be equally proud that an Indian-born scientist Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has also been honored with a Nobel Prize.  It is not only a pride for us but also a pat on the shoulder that we Indian are as good as the rest of the world, the Archbishop has said.
