Bantwal: Grief-stricken Wife Jumps into Well with Child

Bantwal, Oct 10: In a tragic incident that occurred at Ramalkatte near Tumbe on Friday October 9, a woman committed suicide along with her baby, by jumping into a well.

The deceased have been identified as Saroja (30), and her 18-month old daughter, Shravya. Saroja's husband, Chandrashekhar (30), had committed suicide due to depression by lying across the railway tracks near here, three days ago.

It is learnt, that the post-funeral rites of the deceased had been organized at the home of the deceased on Thursday. At around midnight, Saroja took her child Shravya and jumped into a well located in the premises belonging to Shekhar Bhandary, a neighboruer. Saroja's mother-in-law and other people were looking for her since long, and found the body of the two, floating in the well, on Friday morning. Saroja's five-year old son, who was sleeping when his mother went out, has been spared.

Circle inspector K Nanjunde Gowda and the rural police station sub-inspector Shivaprakash visited the spot and registered a case.
