Mangalore: Poojary Voices Suspicions of Discrepancies in Flood Relief Funds

Poojary Voices Suspicions of Discrepancies in Flood Relief Funds
Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (RS/CN)

Mangalore, Oct 20:  Former union minister B Janardhana Poojary demanded that the state government show transparency in collecting funds for relief work in the flood-affected north Karnataka region.

Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday October 20, he said, “Chief minister Yeddyurappa has collected donations thrice through ‘padayatras’, but there is no transparency in this and there is no information about the amount collected through these donations”.

“Money collected from people must be accounted and if it is not declared, it will be suspected that are irregularities. So, the chief minister should give the accounts of money collected in these three ‘padayatras’”, he added.

Poojary said that the state government had sent a memorandum to the union government but its contents had not been revealed. “The people of the state want to know about the memorandum and the estimates of loss caused by floods. But they have ordered that the contents of the memorandum be not revealed”, he said.

“When the opposition leader in the state asked for details of the memorandum, the chief minister did not respond”, said Poojary adding that the opposition leader is a ‘shadow chief minister’ in a democracy and is entitled to know of state affairs.

“We do not know how much money has been released by the state government. First they have to stop blaming the union government”, he said.

Poojary expressed his doubts about the collected donations being used in an appropriate manner.

He added that he had contributed his pension of three months, amounting Rs 75,000, towards flood relief. Poojary went on to say that Rs 1 lac will be sent from Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple.

Former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty, Congress leaders Harikrishna Bantwal, M G Hegde, and others were present.

Nagesh Nayak, Bangalore, As Poojary said let Yeddy give all the information about the amount collected through these Padayatra donations and the transparency. So there would be clear pictures what politicians play exactly. This forum poojary commented about donations, not PM’s flood relief funds to Karnataka & AP. No doubt these flood affected areas are now single number lotteries for Politicians (unfortunately BJP). Time for Congress now to bull eye on BJP. Jai ho Congress.

Dear Mr Arun and Kishore, Did you read my comments. Nowhere I mentioned about BJP or Congress. Dont try to mislead the readers. My concern is not to criticise others religions. Religion is a very personal and sensitive issue. I cant use a proxy hindu name like Gopal or Ramkrishan to criticise hindu dharma, hindu customs, hindu laws. Same way I cant use a name like Joseph or George to criticise christianity.

I being a muslim shall not criticise my religion and its laws. If I am not comfortable as a muslim, the constitution of India has given me the right to choose a religion of my choice and practice it. I can convert to any other religion where I shall be comfortable. By criticising my own and other religions in given name or proxy name one is inviting enemies and problems. The message is dont use proxy names to criticise someone's religion. If someone is not comfortable in the religion he or she presently is, very well can convert to the religion of his or her choice.

But to give out the wrong message to say that she or he is not happy about the religion he or she is in is just misleading and not a reality. Its like a hero or villian in a given film using psuedo names to suit their convenience. Is it not a big hypocrisy????

Mr.nagesh nayak, please stop making unnecessary comments about congress. No ministers of BJP government including Yadiyurappa has given personal contribution to flood relief fund. They are only collecting money from people.Congress mens are working day and night in flood affected areas, But BJP MLS are busy in making press conference and giving pose to photo's. Mr. MMS is giving all required help to Karnataka government. But BJP men are failed to use that help and simply blaming central government. Congress is always for aam admi. Jai ho congress, Jai ho Mr.MMS

There should be a Military body for Natural Disaster Management and Mitigation where their Women Wings can take active part in Planning, Stocking, Sorting, Chanelising, Distributing & Accounting of all the Relief Materials collected in a most scientific method. They should involve Social Organisation like Rotary, Lions etc. because these have their clubs in every nook & corner of India and more over they are selfless social worker & the cream of the society.

Politicians should collect the relief materials & money from the people of their constituency & transfer them to this Military/Social Organisation. The Natural Disaster Management and Mitigation of India can give their share of Govt. Relief Fund to this organisation & persuade the Mega Corporate Companies to shell-out their share of contributions. At no time the Local or State or Central political personality should directly involve in the distribution of relief materials & more over they should be made accountable for each piece of relief material & money they have collected. Jai Hind!

If transperancy in the amoount collected and distributed is needed, every citizen has the right to get an answer through the RTI (right to information) Act which was passed by the government. This is one of the most powerful tool for the citizens today.

I think the main objective of this press meet was not to discuss about the flood relief fund but Mr Poojary adn all the other loosers from congress in the stage there wanted to make presence felt. JP wanted to hear jai jai from people by saying that I have given so much , I will give so much. So that all these people here should think he has done some great thing. A real person who feels and donates heartly wouldnt have gone public with it that I gave so much. JP wants some publicity here. Secondly who is poojary to ask accoutn statement from the Govt ?

There is a ELECTED opposition in Vidhan Soudha, let them do that and let the GOvt give it to them. When they cannot take it there why JP is crying in Mlore for the statements. And am sure Yeddi dint ask JP to accompany him to Delhi. there are elected people form congress for that who are more influential than JP to accompany Yeddi to meet the center. Anywas what will JP do by going to Delhi when is Rival number one Moily is there in the first circle of congress high command ?. Anwyays you cant do anything why dont you take a break till next election ?

I must admit, Poojary is right probably for the first time .The state state government must be transparent and must be accountable. when few indivisuals start collecting funds in the name of 'Flood relief'.We may never know where half of the money will land up. In a mature democracy like India, the leaders should and must be answerable to the 'Aam janata'. If they cannot respond and furnish facts then we can be sure that something's fishy.

Any rulers or in case of democracy ruling party is accountable to their acts. If any citizen express doubt on their integrity it is government duty to prove they are clean. Mr. Poojary's comment should be taken as a citizen’s valid comment.

Fathima/Mangalore, there are many a people write in this forum using some names belonging to minority communities and you are one among them. I have seen from your past comments you have criticised Islam and practice of burkah that no learned muslim women would do.

Use your given name and write. We have freedom of speech and expression, but dont use your name to show that a member of a particular community is not happy with the religion she is following. You can easily convert to the religion of your choice and there is no compulsion in Islam in the matters of religion. Dont blind fold others. You are similar to Geroge Cruz/USA

All the politicians are chameleons they change colors as per their whims and fancies and target one another as required for their selfish motives. For all of them ‘Relief funds’ are the open booty! Come plunder it and make millions for self & family let the final beneficiary of the fund suffer and suffer and die. Who bothers!!

Poojari has no moral right to question anything related to flood relief. At the time of desperate humanitarian crisis, all the Congresswalas prevented the sanction of aid from center.

Who says J Poojary is old? He always spoke truth and sence. Many got fooled by sweet and spsudo talks and blamed Poojary! Opposition always fooled the mass and the oppopsition party can never come closer to noble intentions of Mr. Poojary. When general mass start realising, it will be too late! Religion agenda is a winner at the common mans cost! I bet on it!!
