Delhi gave new politics for building 21st century India: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS): Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday took oath as Chief Minister of Delhi at Ramlila Maidan and thanked the people of the city for the mandate saying the national capital gave birth to a new kind of politics for building a 21st century India.

Kejriwal took the oath of office for the third time along with his Cabinet ministers from the previous term.

Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Rajendra Pal Gautam and Imran Hussain take oath as Cabinet ministers.

Lt. Governor Anil Baijal administered oath of office and secrecy to the AAP leaders.

A total of 50 people from diverse backgrounds were also invited to the swearing-in ceremony, they were called 'Dilli Ke Nirmata', for their contribution towards the development of Delhi.

Kejriwal, addressing the public for the first time after the oath ceremony and the second time since the AAP got a massive mandate of 62 of 70 seats here, also said that the AAP government wants to work with the Centre to develop Delhi into a world-class city.

Kejriwal, who has been striking an emotional note during the campaign for the Assembly polls, continued being 'Delhi's son'.

"Your son has taken the oath of office for the third time today. This is not my victory, this is your victory. In the last five years, we have tried to increase the pace of development in Delhi, and we will continue to do so in the next five years," said the third-time Chief Minister.

He even said that people can tell their families in the native place that they "do not need to worry because your son is the Chief Minister now."

Kejriwal reiterated that he is the Chief Minister of every person in Delhi irrespective of their affiliations to other political parties.

"I have never discriminated against them in the last five years. I have worked for everybody, and never discriminated against people who did not vote for me."

He repeated the campaign line that the two crore people of Delhi are his family.

"You can come to me without any hesitation and I will complete all your work irrespective of your affiliation, caste and whether you are rich or poor."

He asked people to join hands saying Delhi needs a lot of improvement.

"I cannot do it alone, I need your support in making Delhi the most developed and beautiful city in the world. I want to work together with everybody. It is obvious to have scuffles between various political parties during elections. We have forgiven our opposition for whatever remarks they made against us."

He requested the opposition parties to forget what happened during the election.

"I want to work together with all the parties for the development of Delhi. I want to work together with the Central government to make Delhi a world-class city," he said.

Kejriwal said that the people of Delhi have given birth to a new kind of politics in the country during the Delhi election, which is the politics of work and performance.

"This is the politics of schools, hospitals, 24-hour and cheap power supply, water, roads, women's security, corruption-free Delhi, and politics of a 21st century India. This new politics is being discussed all over the country. Governments across the world have started constructing Mohalla clinics, schools, hospitals. State governments across the country have started providing free electricity. You are being talked about all across Delhi," said Kejriwal.

Taking a jibe at the opposition for attacking him for freebies, Kejriwal said everything precious in the world is free, including a "mother's love".

"Do I start charging people for education and health? Do I start charging patients for their operations? That is not possible."

Common man runs Delhi, not politicians: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS): Third time Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his swearing in ceremony on Sunday asserted he would work for the next five years in coordination with the Centre without discriminating against those who did not support his party during the recently-concluded Delhi Assembly polls.

Calling his victory a success of every Delhiite, Kejriwal said he is the Chief Minister of everyone even if they voted for AAP's rivals Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Congress.

"I am the Chief Minister of all who voted for AAP, BJP or Congress. I want to tell all the two crore people of the Delhi that you all are my family. It does not matter from which party you belong or from which caste, creed, or region you come. No matter if you are poor or rich," Kejriwal said.

In his 20-minute speech at Ramlila Maidan, Kejriwal said: "I will work for everyone for the next five years."

Kejriwal appealed to all political parties to forget things that happened during the run up to the polls and sought their help for the development of the capital city. He announced to work in coordination with the Centre and also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help his government for Delhi's progress.

"All parties should forget the past things and support this government for the progress of Delhi. We want to work in coordination with the Central government. I invited the Prime Minister for my swearing-in ceremony. I also urge the Prime Minister to help us in the development of Delhi," Kejriwal said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener took oath as Chief Minister in a grand ceremony at the Ramlila Maidan for the third time in presence of a huge gathering.

The AAP got a massive mandate in the Delhi polls as it was elected in 62 of the 70 Assembly constituencies here while the BJP managed only eight seats and the Congress again failed to get a single seat.

Addressing a huge crowd, Kejriwal said immediately after his swearing-in that the future electoral politics in the country will be based on the development plank. "Delhiites, you have given birth to a new brand of politics -- the politics of performance, of setting up schools, healthcare facilities, providing water, power, and women's security."

Kejriwal also extended an olive branch to the Centre, indicating his eagerness to work with the BJP-led government for Delhi's development. "I had invited the Prime Minister to today's event, but he could not make it. I seek his blessings for Delhi's progress and development," he said, indicating his intention to let bygones be bygones.

The AAP and BJP had fought a bitter battle in the run-up to the Assembly polls held on February 8.

Kejriwal's speech also hinted at his national ambitions. He said, "When every Indian gets security, health, education and employment only then will the tricolour flutter proudly."

The crowd composition at Kejriwal's swearing-in ceremony was a tribute of sorts to the strata of society that have stood by him in the no-holds-barred electoral battle with the BJP.

In his speech, Kejriwal acknowledged the role that the common people play in the development of Delhi.

During the course of his speech, Kejriwal specifically mentioned names of an IIT student, a former teacher who is presently farming, a metro rail pilot, and city bus marshal. Kejriwal said that it is people like them that run Delhi, not the politicians.

"Teachers, doctors, rickshaw drivers, students, bus drivers, tradesmen, are the people who run Delhi. These are the people who give life to Delhi. Politicians come and go," he said.

Kejriwal and his party heroics are limited to only Delhi . Now perhaps AAP will take on Cong in Punjab. Besides this , AAP is nowhere in rest of the India. Are you trying to say that Cong will merge with AAP or Cong will shut its shop and support AAP, then perhaps its possible and a good sign.

AAP's deeds speaks for itself. AAP doesn't need anyone's support or recommendations. It will grow and expand itself across the country by its own strength and popularity. People from all walks of life will come to thier doors steps. They don't need to go door to door. It's just a matter of time a ray of hope to all battered and beaten Indians.
