'Minorities have complete freedom in Pakistan'

Karachi, Feb 24 (IANS): Members of minority groups in Pakistan can practice their religion openly and move about with complete freedom in the Muslim-majority country, a Minister has clamed.

While visiting the Swami Narayan Temple in Karachi on Sunday, provincial minister Nasir Hussain Shah vowed to protect the rights of minorities, reports The Express Tribune.

He commended the role and contribution that minorities have played in the development and progress of Pakistan, adding that he had come to the temple with a message of peace.

On behalf of the government, he also announced that 10,000 copies of the Bhagavad Gita would soon be distributed.

According to the London-based Minority Rights Group International, ethnic minorities in Pakistan include Sindhis (14.1 per cent), Pashtuns (15.42 per cent), Mohajirs (7.57 per cent), Baluchis (3.57 per cent).

Religious minorities include Christians (1.59 per cent), Ahmadis (0.22 per cent), Hindus (1.6 per cent), Shias, Isma'ilis, Bohras, Parsis and Sikhs.

Why did minorities opted to settle in Pakistan after the patrician. ? Did India pushed them into PAK or they went on their own ?

    Flavian,
Very valid point. Myself was also thinking that; but in the context of allowing citizenship through CAA to these minorities in Pakistan who had preferred to stay in Pakistan rather than India. But the time has come where true Indian citizen is at the risk of loosing the nationality to spend the brutal life in Detention shelters. And those who prefrred(or their descendants) to stay in Pakistan are given Indian nationality. But still, anyone who is oppressed can be given Indian nationality; but not on the basis of religion. Meanwhile, it is also very cruel to deprive someone of the Indian nationality based on the documents and his religion.

This is what minorities claim. it's not a statement by Pak Govt. or ISI. Does it has any value when Govt. parties are not involved in such statements.

    Mohith,
As per this news, this is the statement of a Minister, and not a claim of minorities.

Further, as far as I know, the Constitution of Pakistan has reserved 10 Assembly seats and 23 Provincial seats for Non- Muslims of Pakistan. And population of Hindus in Pakistan has been increasing at a percentage higher than their counterparts in India. But it does not mean that there is no discrimination against minorities in Pakistan. Minority discrimination is the Universal fact; be it any Country.
