Kasargod, Nov 5: Abdul Basheer alias Abdul Jabbar (24), son of Hasainar from Nalka Kudkoly, who was the Youth Congress president of the Third Ward in Enmakaje panchayat, besides being the secretary of Perla Youth Congress, was hacked to death at Banuttadka near Perla by unknown assailants at about 9.30 pm on Tuesday November 3.

Basheer was coming home in a car belonging to his friend, when a gang of miscreants, which arrived in a car, intercepted his car and killed him by launching an indiscriminate attack on him with swords. The Congress leaders said that Basheer had revealed to them while being carried to the hospital, that a gang of five people led by Neelagiri Moidu, which came in an Alto car, had committed the crime.

Jabbar's mother and also his only brother were killed in an accident at Vittal five years ago. His sister, Ramla, had been married four days back, and the family was making efforts to marry off his other sister, Ayishat Sakeena. The death of the only bread winner has put the family in deep distress.

Badiyadka police have registered a case against Neelagiri Moidu and four others. Jabbar and Moidu had a pre-existing enmity, it is said. On Wednesday, Perla Bandh was observed. Shops and establishments did not function. Buses did not ply. Many people were taken by surprise, as the bandh call was given without any prior notice.
