“Student life is an important stage in the life of an individual. While it is essential for the students to make optimum use of every opportunity that comes their way, leadership qualities should also be imbibed during the student days,” said Mangalore’s reputed Dix Group of Companies managing director, M Devanand Shetty.
 
Devanand Shetty was speaking at the annual programme of distribution of prizes and scholarships, organized by MSRS College, Shirva, near here on Friday November 6 morning.
 
Prof Samuel K Samuel, principal of Crossland College, Bramavar, in his chief guest’s address, said that during one’s lifetime, one has to achieve something worthwhile.  A true leader is the one who faces all the hurdles and challenges that come his way fearlessly, he added.
 


V Subbaiah Hegde, secretary of Vidyavardhak Sangh, Shirva, presided over the programme.
 
MSRS College principal, Prof Y Bhaskar Shetty, delivered the introductory address.  Student welfare officer, Prof Karunakar, explained the objectives of the education committee.
 
Prizes worth Rs 80,000 and scholarships of Rs 25,000 were distributed to the students at the programme.
 
Students Union leader Sharath Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Secretary, Anand, presented the annual report.  Women’s representative, Asha, proposed vote of thanks. Secretary, Supriya, compered the programme.
