Moodbidri: Man booked for posing as journalist, allegedly threatening people, officials

Moodbidri, Apr 12: A case has been registered in the town police station here against a person who was allegedly threatening the members of the pubic as well as government officials by posing himself as a journalist attached to a non-existent news publication.

The accused has been identified as Sudatta Jain from Shirtady here.


It is said that Jain claimed himself to be the editor of a Kannada newspaper titled 'Kaarmika Vaani'. He allegedly was in the habit of keeping the people and government officials on tenterhooks by claiming himself to be a journalist. It is learnt that he used to create an impression among the people by repeatedly asserting that writing is his profession and he is part of the fourth pillar of democracy, journalism.

The complaint mentions that Jain is not the representative of any of the media houses but by misleading people, he was engaging in illegal activities. The complaint also alleged that he is in the habit of writing derogatorily of media persons and government officials by misusing WhatsApp, Facebook and other social media.

In his complaint made to the police, Moodbidri Press Club president, Venugopal, has expressed suspicion of some more persons having been involved with similar activities by faking themselves as journalists. He has urged the police to initiate suitable legal measures against the person towards protecting interests of the journalists and the society. He also has requested the people who have faced trouble at the hands of such people to complain either to the Press Club or the police.
