Udupi, Apr 13: Deputy commissioner of the district G Jagadeesha, who is determined to take stringent measures against spread of coronavirus infection in the district, has undertaken elaborate measures at the district border. At the district border at Hejamady, he has ordered seal down, ordered to keep close vigil and every vehicle to be checked in detail before it is allowed to move ahead.

Check posts of both Dakshna Kannada and Udupi district are functional at Hejamady village, which is located on the border of these two districts. Only vehicles that are in dire need of visiting hospitals, those going to buy medicines and permitted goods vehicles are being allowed passage. In other cases, vehicles not supported by proper documents and permits or passes are not allowed to cross the border.

Every individual travelling by vehicles is made to get down from the vehicle and undergo body temperature check with the help of thermometers. Vehicles found to be moving around unnecessarily are stopped and steps are taken against them.

Miscreants at work in Palimaru

Vehicles moving on highway find it hard to cross the border at Hejamady as there is proper scrutiny. As such, some vehicles, in order to escape police verification, were using interior road stretch passing though Palimaru and Karnire to circumvent Hejamady check post. The police therefore, had barred vehicular traffic there by erecting a temporary fence across the bridge over River Shambhavi. But it was found that some miscreants had removed this fence. Palimaru taluk panchayat member, Dinesh Palimaru, made a complaint in this regard after which tahsildar Mohammed Isaac, along with revenue inspector Ravishankar, Padubidri police sub-inspector Subbanna, and gram panchayat president Jitendra Furatado, checked the spot. Later, Palimaru panchayat village accountant Lokanath, instructed panchayat development officer Satish, to construct a wall across the bridge by using concrete bricks and also to close the road by heaping mud there.

The work of closing the road with mud began immediately. The work of blocking the road with mud and then building temporary wall has been going on.

If the DC is serious about not letting in Corona into the district via any outside people, then he should ban fishing also! People will not maintain any social distancing at all in fish market or in dock. It is common sense.
