Kadaba, Apr 14: In an incident reported from a village in the taluk, someone who called a Vijaya Bank account holder, sought to get OTP number purportedly for activating his Airtel phone number. In three different transactions, he siphoned off Rs 99,900 from the latter's account.

Dharanendra Jain from Bedraje in Kodimbala village, who is a former member of Kadaba Goddess Durgambika temple managing committee, had received a call from a person on Friday evening. The caller who spoke in Kannada, introduced himself as an employee of Airtel customer care. He asked for the OTP number for activating the phone number.

As soon as the number came, Jain sent the same to the caller's number with the help of his son. Within a few minutes, Jain's account with Vijaya Bank was debited to the extent of Rs 50,000. By the time he considered filing a complaint, two other items of Rs 25,000 and 24,900 were debited to the same account early morning on Saturday.

Jain filed a complaint in this regard in Kadaba police station on Monday April 13. It is learnt that in a similar incident, a lady from Kadaba was asked to send Rs 6,000 through Google Pay and then duped, about which too a complaint stands filed in the same police station.

I too received a call last week in kananda from a woman saying she was from airtel and that there is a special offer and she would send me link as soon as I disconnected. I just asked her a question why will airtel call me personally as I keep getting their offer messages by sms. She abruptly disconnected the phone. People beware of such frauds. There's another caller claiming to be from sbi atm. When we checked with bank they were unaware of the no but didn't register any complaint.

What action did he take after the first alert message on his phone. We have a system so that we can act immediately. Thanks for his generous irresponsibility.

Our TV channels give these news about such frauds, newspapers publish these news prominently, the banks send alerts to their customers warning them not to share their OTP’s, but still there are people who are foolish enough to do so and get duped. What else can be done to prevent these occurances?

In a nutshell, HERE are two situations mostly resulting in one of the below :

Ignorance (MOST of the occasion knowingly or pretending otherwise)

Too much of learning .... when one seems too much over extra confident and refuses to believe that he WILL NOT BE or COULDN'T be one of the gullible victim.
