India could have had over 1 lac cases if not for lockdown, says centre

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SS)

New Delhi, Apr 25: The central government announced on Friday that the national lockdown was a smart and timely step initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If it was not for this, the number of COVID-19 cases in India would have touched 1 lac by now.

Officials revealed in a press briefing that the outbreak in India is currently under control and credited this to the vigorous surveillance network, the implementation of the lockdown and other restrictions imposed.

11 empowered groups were established to suggest methods to ramp up healthcare, bring the economy back on track and reduce the difficulties of the residents once the lockdown is lifted. According to the analysis conducted, the chairman of Empowered Group One and Niti Aayog member, V K Paul said that the lockdown has been successful in slowing the rate at which COVID-19 cases are doubling in the country, as it now stands at 10 days.

Around March 21, the number of cases doubled every 3 days. However, there was an improvement after the Janata curfew and the doubling rate increased to five. By this time travel restrictions were imposed and an environment for social distancing was created. From April 6 onwards, the doubling time started slowing down, he added.

He further said that the curve has begun to flatten and that the outbreak is now under control. However, officials say that these projections are based on the growth pattern during a particular time.

S K Singh, the Director of the National Centre of Disease Control said that India’s primary weapon in fighting this battle has been surveillance. He added that since our surveillance mechanism had begun even before the first case was reported in India, the spread of the virus was largely contained.

Surveillance networks have been set up at the district levels so that household surveys, quarantine and isolation are conducted as part of the cluster containment plan. About 9.45 lac suspected coronavirus patients are currently under surveillance upon the detection of symptoms.

Lav Agarwal, the joint secretary in the Health Ministry announced that in the past 28 days, over 15 districts have had no new cases, while 80 districts of the nation have not reported any new case in the past two weeks.

When Covid first hit Kerala, the State immediately activated the entire health system to face the situation, whereas the Central Government was in stupor, discussing about beautifcation and re-building of Parliament annexe. Government spent a lot for beautifying and sanitising Ahmedabad and hiding the slums from Trumps view for the Namaste Trump event. Now today when the same Ahmedabad is reeling under Covid the State / Centre and what is that the Government is doing? The WHO protocols should have been in place for screening all International flight passengers which were not done; resulted in importing of disease. One of the newspaper reports states that “Domestic flights were not banned till Congress Government in MP was brought down, because flights are required for shunting the disgruntled MLAs to Bangalore / Manesar. Both the incoming / outgoing CMs of Madhya Pradesh called on their workers in large numbers at their houses and conducted press meeting without following any social distancing from where Covid started spreading to Policemen and Health Department officials”. The entire health department of MP became paralysed due to this and the state became a scapegoat in the tussle for power”. If the airports were sealed in time and lockdown was implemented earlier, the spread would have been much lesser. Also no exit plan formulated. The Indians abroad are waiting to come back to country that would bring fresh round of infection and Government has not come out with any plan. Instead of asking to beat on vessels, clapping and lighting lamps, please wake up and utilise the time to formulate an exit plan else during next election, people voluntarily would beat on vessels.

When PM Modi's BJP Govt In Stupor', Rahul Gandhi Reminds Centre He Flagged Corona-virus threat On Feb 12.

The Corona Virus is an extremely serious threat to our people and our economy. My sense is the government is not taking this threat seriously. Timely action is critical. 2:16 AM · Feb 12, 2020

It is to be noted that India recorded its first case of #COVID19 on January 30, 2020. But throughout February, the Central Government failed to act to curb the spread of the virus or make preparations to deal with it.

He listed the events held by the BJP and the government. “Instead the Central Government organised large crowds and rallies to greet US President Trump, exposing thousands to the danger of the virus. The supporters of the ruling BJP- led “communal” mobs in North East Delhi in February.

Warnings by Opposition leaders in early February about the approaching Covid-19 epidemic were met with mockery by the Central Government.

The nation would not have completely lock down having economical consequences if the first case of COVID-19 like Kerala government has taken seriously by the Center. But in order hide its competitiveness the government has given full control to paid media to exploit 'Tablig Jamat' congregation to deflect the nation.

There is still no exist strategy, no economical recovery plans, support system for jobs, PDS and so on
Now government is taking credit for doing nothing.

India could have had less cases if screening at the international airport could have started as early as mid February and all of them were quarantined. Such a extended lockdown would not have been necessary then.

Now we have saved many lives by extended lockdown. But what about economy and the livelihoods of many including daily wage workers and migration labourers?

Cases would have been less if people were sensible and obey to the instructions given by government. Government can't do everything, certain things r to be done by people also.
