Managlore: Head-on Collision of Buses Kills Two – Leaves Over 30 Injured

Mangalore, Dec 28: In a head-on collision between Volvo and Udupi express bus on national highway 17 near Pavanje here on Sunday December 27, the two bus drivers died on the spot and over 30 others in the buses were injured.

The accident occurred when the Volvo bus speeding towards Mangalore from Hyderabad in a bid to accelerate overtook a vehicle at a curve near Pavanje and head-on collided with private express bus moving towards Udupi. The rains had rendered the roads slippery and the driver of the Volvo bus lost could not break in an instant, said one of the passengers. 

The deceased drivers have been identified as Parashuram Limbadkar (40) of Hubli, the driver of the Volvo bus and Gopalakrishna from Charmady of Beltangady taluk, the driver of the private express bus. Gopalkrishna is survived by wife and three children, two among them twins only a few days old.

The condition of Ashok (19) of Shimoga, the cleaner of the private bus is said to be serious. Shivraj Shetty (34), the son of the owner of the private bus too is among the injured.
