Bangalore: CM to Try to Diffuse Dissidence at Legislative Party Meeting

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Jan 4: The BJP legislative party meeting being held here on Monday January 4 will try to find a lasting solution to the dissidence in the party that has been surfacing often, and to douse the resentment of the legislators who are peeved over the recent developments within the party.

Loyalists of the party are angered at the fact that Renuakacharya, who was identified with different dissident groups in the past, succeeded in getting a ministerial berth at the cost of more senior and eligible party colleagues. The demand for dropping him and accommodating a few seniors in the ministry, is gaining ground. This issue, apart from the issue of appointment of chairpersons to various corporations and boards, will figure in the said meeting.

At present, three ministers hold charges of two districts each. Jagadish Shettar, who was recently inducted into the ministry, has been demanding that he should be made the in-charge minister for Dharwad district, and Murugesh Nirani, who presently holds charge of this district, is willing to give up. Mysore and Kolar districts do not have any in-charge ministers, after Shobha Karandlaje and Krishnaiah Shetty resigned from their posts. Balachandra Jarkhiholi, Anand Asnotikar and Shivanagouda Nayak also may me made district in-charge ministers.

At the meeting held before the election of the assembly speaker, Yeddyurappa had assured the dissidents that a meeting would be held to sort out their complaints. The opportunity is being given to them to air their grievances today, at the meeting being held at a Golden Palm Resort in the outskirts of the city. State president of the BJP, Sadanand Gowda, has said that the legislators would be barred from issuing statements that can cause discomfiture to the party leaders, to the media. The meeting will also assess the performances of ministers, development initiatives etc.

No national level leaders will be present at the meeting today, it is learnt. Yeddyurappa has indicated that any reorganization of the ministry will take place only after the budget session, after holding discussions with national leaders.
