Bantwal, Jan 6: Dakshina Kannada District Congress Commmittee president and MLA, B Ramanath Rai, has charged the BJP of rising to power by doling out empty promises and then failing to meet any of the promises it made.

He was addressing a protest meeting organized in front of the taluk office in B C Road here on Tuesday January 5, under the aegis of Bantwal, Panemangalore and Vittal block Congress committees, against the failure of the state government in all fronts.

“Distribution of ration cards, loan waivers, distribution of house sites etc., have remained fake promises aimed at bagging votes,” he criticized.

Mangalore MLA, U T Khader, said that the people are compelled to hang their heads in shame because of the government that does not any credibility and a Chief Minister who is shameless. Khader said that the members of the state cabinet, who are prepared to go to any extent to cling to power, have been getting free publicity for themselves by claiming several central government schemes as their own.

Former president of the District Youth Congress, Bondala Jagannath Shetty, noted that the state government had declared its intention to fix support price for areca nut. Whenever approached by the media on the issue, the ministers and MPs have been replying that the same would be done next Friday. “Already 19 Fridays have gone by after the promise was made. Which Friday are they referring to?” he questioned.

Various leaders were present. After the protest meeting, a memorandum was submitted against the dismal failure of the state government, to the state Governor, through the taluk tahsildar.
