Kundapur: Omni Goes Up in Flames – Owner Sustains Serious Injuries

Kundapur, Jan 9: An explosion went off in Maruti Omni van, which thereafter, was engulfed in flames. It is said that the battery short circuit that occurred while parking the vehicle at the owner’s residence in Koteshwar near here, ignited the explosion.

The vehicle was reduced to a skeleton of metal, while the owner, Ramesh Billava, suffered grievous injuries in the accident. It is said that a deafening explosion was heard while Ramesh Billava, owner of the vehicle, was parking the vehicle near the house. In addition to the vehicle, about Rs 40,000 kept in the van and two mobile sets were devoured by the flames. A loss of around three lac rupees is reported. The injured Billava was rushed to a hospital here, where he is recovering.

The walls of Billava’s home and some coconut trees located near the spot of the incident, suffered damages due to the intensity of the explosion. The fire brigade personnel from here reached the spot and extinguished the flames before more damage could be inflicted. The local policemen have registered a case.

    I wonder how could this happen.Can any automobile person explain to the readers of Daijiworld what precautions one should take and what may have triggered the explosion.
