Chicago Mayor lifts curfew after peaceful protests


Chicago, Jun 8 (IANS): Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced the lifting of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew imposed on the city of Chicago last weekend following property damage and looting.

"The curfew is lifted effective immediately. I know this time in our city and our country has been difficult for us all, and I'm grateful to our residents for working together to navigate this challenging time," she tweeted on Sunday noon, Xinhua reported.

Chicago witnessed peaceful protests on Saturday. The police said there have been no arrests this weekend related to protests.

The city has removed all obstacles at the entrances to bus and subway stations, and restored public transport service in downtown area Sunday morning.
