Udupi, Jun 11: The district has been battered by the huge number of coronavirus-positive cases coming into the district from Maharashtra. The deputy commissioner of the district, who is reeling under the effect of this onslaught, has decided to take stringent measures towards controlling the situation created by the large number of coronavirus patients coming into the district.

As per an order issued by the deputy commissioner, those who return to the state from Maharashtra cannot enter Udupi district without the permission of the deputy commissioner of the district.

Speaking to media persons on this issue, deputy commissioner of the district, G Jagadeesha, said that people from other states except Maharashtra will get permission to enter the district immediately after they put through their applications through the Seva Sindhu app. However, in the case of people from Maharashtra, they have to wait till the deputy commissioner gives them permission, he clarified.

"As many as 160 persons who had filed applications till June 11 have been given permission to come to the district. Permission has also been given to 131 people to enter district on June 12, 76 on June 13, and 96 persons on June 14. As soon as the people arrive in the district, they have to go to the DRC centre where their hands will be stamped with quarantine stamp. For this purpose, DRC centres which function 24 hours of the day on all days, have been opened at Karkala, Kundapur, Brahmavar and Kaup, he said. He also revealed that in the case of people coming from Maharashtra, their throat swab samples will be collected within five days and tested.
