Mangaluru, Jun 11: Following the ongoing pandemic, schools across the state were earlier asked not to force parents of students who were unable to pay the school fees. However, repeated complaints on schools demanding parents to pay fees have been surfacing. Responding to the situation, the deputy director of public instruction (DDPI) has laid down a strict warning to schools taking this step.

"As per government circular, school fees cannot be collected from parents who are unable to or refusing to pay it until further orders. Schools should not exert any type of pressure on parents concerning payment of school fees. If complaints of throwing out students for non-payment of school fees are received, stern disciplinary action will be taken against the schools under the Right to Education Act," warned Dakshina Kannada DDPI in a press release to private schools.

"Several complaints via calls are being received by the deputy commissioner and deputy director of public instruction over private schools collecting school fees. All the private schools in the district have been informed that they cannot exert any pressure on parents regarding payment of school fees. If complaints are registered against such schools, severe action will be taken under the Right to Education Act for the wrongdoing. The schools will be reported to district education control authority," the DDPI warned.
