Bantwal: Four arrested for hurting religious sentiments in TikTok video

Bantwal, Jun 13: Bantwal rural station police personnel arrested four on charges of hurting religious sentiments on Saturday June 13.

The arrested are Sajipanadu residents Mohammed Masood (20), Mohammed Azeem (20), Abdul Lathif (20) and Mohammed Arfaz (20). The four had reportedly made a TikTok video walking about indecently wearing shoes around the idol of Lord Shiva at a Hindu crematorium.

They had illegally entered the crematorium of Kanchinadka Padavu, Sajipanadu, during the period of lockdown, sat near the idol wearing shoes and walked around it. The video had gone viral through on social media. Beer bottles and evidence for consumption of ganja were also found near the idol. The video of them consuming alcohol and ganja too had gone viral.

The president of the crematorium had lodged a complaint with the police that the actions were an insult to the Hindu religious centre.

Bantwal rural police station team of sub-inspector Prasanna under the leadership of Bantwal circle inspector T D Nagaraj under direction and guidance of Bantwal DySP Valentine D’Souza found and arrested the accused within a few hours of the receipt of complaint.
