Bengaluru: CM directs continuation of scholarships despite financial crunch

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Despite the financial crunch facing Karnataka on account of the slump in economic activities due to COVID-19 lockdown situation, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has directed the officials to continue with student scholarships.

He was speaking during the review of the functioning of the Backward Classes Welfare Department through video conferencing from his home office, Krishna, in Bengaluru on Tuesday.


The officials briefed the Chief Minister that the Backward Classes Department has achieved 97% financial progress in the implementation of the programmes for the year 2019-20.

Yediyurappa complimented the Department for its impressive performance, especially in providing training and coaching to candidates in different competitive examinations, leading to selection of two candidates in IAS and two in IPS cadres besides 13 others in various other cadres.

"It is laudable that the Backward Classes Welfare Department in ensuring the selection of a total of 268 candidates for different all Indian service cadres," he said.

Health and Family Welfare as also Backward Classes Welfare Minister B Sriramulu, Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar, Backward Classes Welfare Department Additional Chief Secretary Gangaram Baderia and other senior officials were present in the review meeting.

Earlier, the Chief Minister participated in the Dhanvantri Yagapuja seeking divine intervention for the control of COVID-19 pandemic at the Shankara Math in Chamarajpet in the city.

    Scholarship is another jumla. 99% students applied. But no reply.

    Yes, No scholarships were credited to the applicants though their applications were accepted twice in central & later state portal which were painfully slow & unresponsive causing hardship to applicants & their parents who had to visit cyber several times.
    It is the same case for Minority Scholarship applicants as well as per latest information.
