Mangaluru: 'Only one washerman, barber per family eligible for lockdown compensation' - DC

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC) Sindhu B Rupesh, said that if more than one person is involved with an occupation from a family, only one among them would be eligible to get compensation from the government.

She was speaking after chairing a meeting to extend compensation to washermen and barbers, which was held at the office of the deputy commissioner here on Tuesday June 16. She asked the eligible people to file their applications through Seva Sindhu portal.

"People from other districts and states who hold BPL cards can claim the financial assistance of Rs 5,000 being given by the government. The beneficiaries have to fill in their applications, and upload the Aadhar card which has been linked to a bank account, ration card as address confirmation, voter identity card, mobile number, self-declaration, employment certificate and photograph. Employment certificates are issued in district and taluk centres by the city corporation, municipality, town municipality, revenue officer of town panchayat, revenue inspector and tahsildar, deputy tahsildars at taluk level, panchayat development officer at the gram panchayat level, inspector of labour department, labour officers, assistant labour commissioner etc can attest the certificates, she said.

She asked the officials to check whether the applicants are functioning in their area and file report within the time limit prescribed.

Assistant commissioner Madan Mohan, labour department officer Wilma, and others were present.

    How much can you give ? There is a huge population in Karnataka who are working in profession like rickshaw drivers, barbers, labourers, self employed in laundry , fisheries etc who will get and how much will he get ? Will the people who really need will get it or some scrupulous people will come up with fake employment certificate ?

    How will barber and wash person prove that they are working in that particular line? Cus they may not have any documents.... The owner of a shop may have but not the workers..

    At last barber and washerman getting compensation of rs. 5000. What about the helpers labourers of fishing work?. Who will compensate them including poor women doing such work in fish markets.
