Bengaluru, Jun 17: The SSLC exams in the state are all set to be held from June 25 to July 4. The department of Public Instruction and Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board have issued guidelines for the smooth conduct of the exam amid coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

All precautions and responsibilities of educational institutions to hold the examination in a safe environment have been increased. It may be recalled, the state high court had supported the decision of the education department to hold SSLC examination in the interests of the future of the students, by disposing of the public interest litigation.

Below are the guidelines issued for students, parents and the teachers:

Instructions for students for safe examination practices:

1. Since every child has to undergo health check-up, the students should reach the examination centre one hour thirty minutes before the scheduled time.
2. Sanitizing and wearing mask is mandatory before the health check-up.
3. The students should follow the queue by maintaining one meter distance to get the health check-up done.
4. Masks will be provided at the counter, in case students forget to wear masks.
5. Students will be screened for health check-up before entering the examination hall.
6. Cover your nose and mouth with hand kerchief / napkin / elbow while coughing and sneezing.
7. Do not shake hands, touch or hug your fellow students.
8. Do not touch door handles, windows and any other surfaces unnecessarily or exchange items with fellow students.
9. Students should report any sign of ill health during the exam, to the invigilator.
10. Students can bring their own water bottle, lunch box and napkin in the lunch box.
11. Students should bring hall ticket and other necessary items without fail.
12. Students should compulsorily follow physical distance from the time of entry into the examination centre till exit.

Instructions for parents:

1. It is ensured that none of the designated examination centres are in the containment zones.
2. The designated examination centres are sanitized three days prior to the day of examination.
3. One health check-up counter for every 200 children will be set up in all the examination centres.
4. Since every child has to undergo health check-up, the students should reach the examination centre one hour thirty minutes before the scheduled time.
5. The health check-up counters will be open from 8:30 am till the completion of examination.
6. Health check-up in designated counters in the premises of the examination centres is mandatory for students before entering the examination hall.
7. Special room to write the exams are set up for students with sign of cough, cold and fever.
8. Please instruct your wards to report any signs of ill health during the exam, to the invigilator.
9. It will be ensured that only of maximum of 18 to 20 students are seated in each room, with a minimum of one meter distance between the desks and also it will be made sure that only 2 students per desk are seated.
10. Teachers / invigilators and officer shall maintain physical distancing with each other and also with students throughout the period of examination.
11. Health status of teachers / invigilators and all officers visiting the examination centres is ensured daily before resuming the duties.
12. If a student is already identified as Covid 19 positive case, then such students are allowed to write supplementary exam which will be treated as first attempt only.
13. Teachers / invigilators and officers are trained well regarding the safe examination practices.
14. It is mandatory for Teachers / invigilators to wear masks and use hand sanitizers before and after handling the registers/ attendance / question paper / answer booklets. All have been instructed to wash hands with soap and water after visiting rest rooms.
15. In case the students have migrated/ travelled to outside states or have stayed back in neighbouring states then such students will be given an opportunity to attend the examination. In case for any reason the student is not able to attend the examination, then she / he will be provided the opportunity to write the supplementary examinations, which will be treated as first attempt only.
16. Parents should ensure that their wards carry the hall ticket and other necessary items without fail while proceeding to the examination hall.
17. Students should bring separate lunch box and water bottle as they reach examination centre well before the scheduled time.
18. Suitable transportation facility is provided to students to facilitate the students to reach the examination centre safely.
19. Parents are requested not to stay near the examination centre in groups during the period of examination. You are requested to kindly leave after your ward enters the examination centre.

Instructions for Teachers / invigilators and officers:

1. Wearing of masks throughout period of examination is mandatory for all the personnel at the examination centre.
2. All personnel including teachers / invigilators should undergo a health check-up at designated counters every day before resuming the duties.
3. Teachers / invigilators and officers should follow the guidelines given in the training and necessarily follow safe examination practices.
4. Teachers / invigilators and officers shall maintain physical distancing with each other and also with students throughout the period of examination.
5. Make sure that students with signs of cold cough and fever are made to sit in the designated special rooms to write the examination.
6. Students should enter the rooms in the queue maintaining physical distance.
7. It should also be ensured that only a maximum of 18 to 20 students are seated in each room, with a minimum of one meter distance between the desks and also make sure that only 2 students per desk are seated.
8. In special rooms a distance of a minimum of 6 feet between the desks and 1 student per desk should be maintained.
9. Instruct students not to touch the windows, doors and other surfaces unnecessarily.
10. If any students reports signs of ill health during the examination period, the student should be taken to the health check-up counter for further management by the health staff. The situation should be managed efficiently by the concerned chief of the centre.
11. It is mandatory for teachers / invigilators to use hand sanitizer before and after handling the registers / attendance / question papers / answer booklets. Wash hands with soap and water after visiting rest rooms.
12. Ensure that every student wears a mask throughout the period of examination.
13. After the examination is over, ensure that students do not leave the examination hall in groups but take steps to send the students in a line, one after the other.
