Mangaluru: Home for senior citizens 'Shanti Vihar' blessed, inaugurated

Mangaluru, Jun 17: Shanti Vihar - A home of love and Care for Senior Citizens at Paldane, Kulshekar, Mangaluru was inaugurated by Sr M Susheela AC, the superior general of the Apostolic Carmel on June 13. Fr Dr Peter Paul Saldanha the bishop of Mangaluru unveiled the plaque, blessed the building and consecrated the chapel with Eucharistic celebration. The presence of Fr Alban D'Souza the parish priest of St Mother Teresa Church, Paldane, Fr Paul Crasta and Fr Walter D'Mello made this occasion truly blessed. The architect and engineer Neville D'Souza, the contractor Alwin Crasta with his associates Lokesh and Manoj and their team were part of this inauguration. The ceremony was witnessed by AC sisters, parishioners and a few neighbours.

This home of love and service is under the management of the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel, Karnataka province which was founded for the faith formation of young girls and other Apostolic works, by Venerable Mother Veronica who also showed the way to reach out to the sick, elderly and the rejected by her devoted and loving service with the motto 'God Alone Suffices'. Shanti Vihar is a new endeavour of the Apostolic Carmel, which completes 150 years of its existence in India. It is a holistic and unified three-storied building with a courtyard in the centre and balconies on each floor as well as a place for recreation. A lift, a ramp and a staircase connect the three floors. However, the most attractive spot which surely brings peace and solace to those preparing for their home going is the Chapel.

The generosity of Gladys Monteiro and her husband late B V Monteiro was gratefully acknowledged for gifting the land for this noble cause. The first community of Shanti Vihar with Sr Maria Asumptha as the superior along with Sisters Benedicta Furtado, Maria Sonal and Erena Fernandes are on this mission of the congregation under Karnataka province.

    Congratulations to the AC Nuns for starting this Home for seniors. I am sure it will do well, coz the need of the hour for seniors is a caring home.

    Home for senior citizens like 'Shanti Vihar' is the need of present time as many Seniors both well to do and not so financially sound are left unattended. Big thank you to Apostolic Carmel of Catholic community of Mangalore for involving in such projects, supporting the society. Well done and Kudos to you.

    A Good Project/Plan for accommodating senior citizens at their old age in a beautiful place like Paldane .View of the Building "SHANTHI VIHAR " is super and its inner view also. Such Homes for Aged are the present necessity instead of staying alone in a big house with no proper arrangements and servants etc.
    Sisters of Apostolic carmel have done a marvellous job to provide such a shelter to Senior citizens. According to me they render good service also. All the best sisters of Apostolic Carmel.

    Really pleasant to see the dream of Victor (late) and Gladys has come true. It brought back the memories of a person whom I admired the most, for his simplicity and true value. Victor must be rejoicing this day in heaven with Angels and Mother Mary whose ardent lover he was.. Congratulations Gladys, you really gave your best to fulfil the dream of Victor.
