Karnataka to observe Thursday as Mask Day to raise awareness

Bengaluru, Jun 17 (IANS): Karnataka will observe Thursday as 'Mask Day' to create awareness among the masses regarding the importance of wearing one amid the COVID-19 pandemic, said an official on Wednesday.

"Karnataka government will observe Thursday as Mask Day to create awareness on wearing a mask," said Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner BH Anil Kumar.

The civic body is already raising awareness about the infection through announcements and pamphlets.

BBMP marshals and staff are sharing pamphlets to pedestrians and motorists about COVID precautions, wearing a mask and not spitting in the public.

Meanwhile, the civic body is also penalizing people for not wearing a mask by fining them.

On Sunday, BBMP marshals fined 40 people in Marathahalli area for not wearing a mask.

Fine worth Rs 1.8 lac from people for not wearing a mask was collected by the civic body on June 11.

First make it compulsory to your Ministers and other politicians. who dont wear masks and dont keep social distance in many occassions. Take action against those who dont follow the rules. If they violate then who else will follow rules.

We as adults face difficulty wearing a mask continuously - the freedom of breathing fresh air is a gift now). I shudder to think what our children will go through today when writing their 2nd PU exam while wearing a mask continuously for almost 5 hours (exam time plus a very early arrival at the centre). Be brave, children - it will make you bolder in life ahead.
