Mangaluru, Sep 2: Soon after a lady from the city made a 'Pookalam' (colourful arrangements of flowers) around the potholes at Pumpwell service road, the authorities related to road work and maintenance rushed to the spot and repaired the potholes on Wednesday September 2.

It may be recalled, an educational consultant from Mangaluru, Radhika Deemanth Suvarna, came up with an idea of making a ‘Pookalam’ around the pothole at service road in Pumpwell highlighting the pathetic road condition which gained attention of the concerned authorities.

The act of Radhika due to which necessary action was taken by the authorities, has been widely appreciated by the public.

Mangaluru: Unique Onam celebration at Pumpwell highlights pathetic road conditions

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Sep 2: The roads in Mangaluru have turned pathetic with potholes and the general public is highly critical about the issue. People are losing their lives in accidents accounting to potholes. While many roads have been developed, the service roads are completely neglected and unnoticed by the concerned authorities leading them to be in pathetic condition.

An educational consultant, Radhika Deemanth Suvarna, came up with an idea to celebrate Onam by making 'Pookalam' (colourful arrangements of flowers) around the potholes at Pumpwell service road on Tuesday September 1. The Pumpwell flyover was in the headlines for taking ten long years for its completion. The flyover is now completed and open for public, but the service roads have turned pathetic with numerous potholes.

Educational consultant Radhika Deemanth Suvarna was accompanied by her friends Yuvika, Supritha and make-up artiste Nelofar.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com Radhika Deemanth Suvarna said, "We celebrated Onam by making pookalam around the potholes on the service road at Pumpwell. I am a working lady and I commute a lot on that road. We can notice several potholes which leads to accidents and several people have lost lives. Authorities highlight only main roads. What about the service roads which are completely neglected? The concerned authorities need to focus on service roads as well. Keeping this in mind, we came up with the idea of making Pookalam here as a part of Onam with my friends," she said.

Wait for one good rain and see the condition of the repair. The asphalting is not done properly. It's just an eyewash.

Is it not illegal to have such pothole filled roads even after paying hefty toll tax, road tax , GST, cess and what not?
Is it illegal to protest denial of such basic civic amenities? That too in such a peaceful non-violent unique way?

What a contrast beside a flyover we find potholes after spending so much of money and time on historic flyover. The authorities should see to it that the service roads around the historic flyover should be in good condition. Surely we will have a lot of tourists from different parts of the world.

Pumpwell should have given to Adani for maintenance like Airport for the period of 50 years.

IF AIRPORTS ARE RUNNING IN LOSS
    WHY ADANI IS BUYING THEM?
    IF ADANI CAN MAKE PROFITS
THEN WHY MODI IS SELLING THEM?

Yes... They must be trying to highlight that, few days back students met with accident because of the potholes and not because of anything. There are other roads in Mangaluru. Why they are not decorated with flowers. I am surprised, all the roads in kasargod are smooth without any potholes? If yes.. Leave. Otherwise, please decorate those roads too with pookalam

She is not Malayali. She is Tuluva. Her surname is Suvarna. What if Malayali protest in Mangalore for a good road ? Its everyone's fundamental right to protest. U can't deny it. Bhakths can't tolerate the protest and criticism

Its not ' Bhakth or Non Bhatkh' discussion here. Roads are pathetic in Mlore esp during rainy season, its nothing new, and everywhere in INdia. If Mallus think its bothers them they can go back to the Mallu Land. Nobody is forcing them here. Wonder whats so wrong in 'Gods own country' and ''100% litereacy state' that they flock to other states ? They are all over the place now . In Kerala you cannot unload your own baggage from a Lorry without Union supervison for which you have to pay 'looking fees'. Come on!
