Mangaluru, Sep 7: A ‘rowdy parade’ was carried out in which people engaged in consumption and peddling ganja in and around Mangaluru city by police commissioner Vikas Kumar on Monday September 7. He said that rowdy parade in all station limits is being conducted, particularly of those involved in communal violence and drug cases.

"This is a very important war against drugs where youths are severely affected and now the issue is on the rise. We have to bring awareness that this is not at all good for the youth and need to be curtailed in a big way," he said.

He said that those who are caught indulging in drugs and with repeated offences, strict action would be taken against them. If needed, the Goonda Act will be invoked against them or even exiled from the area. "We are into a continuous war against drugs and determined to ensure that youth should not fall prey to it, stay away from it be it peddling or consumption," he said.

Out of 90 peddlers in the parade on Monday, six to seven were students. "I want to send a message to students to stay away from this as their career will be ruined," he said.

The purpose of this move is to control NDPS issues, warn peddlers not to get indulged and strict action would be taken. "If anyone wants to come back to the mainstream, we are ready to help them by providing medical assistance. We are getting information that drugs are being supplied from Kerala, distant locations like Goa, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha. We cannot rule out drugs being supplied from abroad. We are looking at that angle too. In the last two months, ten cases of ganja have been detected," the commissioner said.

    Cynthi,

This is good publicity for drug peddlers...they cannot advertise their products in TV or Newspapers !!....Now everybody knows how to procure drugs ..... in case they need it !!! Hmmm...

When Pot / Ganja is legalized in Canada for Akshay Kumar( Canadian Citizen) ...why not its LEGAL for Ragini in Bangalore???...

Canadian Pot companies are publicly traded in New York stock exchange like Ambani's Reliance and Adani Companies....and here we persecute poor Ragini who says she never smoked pot!!!....

    Very bad....

    ...Tak...Takk...

Lan Sir, why you want to be a villain tell me? You should be hero for a lovely heroine. For villain, let's select someone from the group whom police paraded yesterday. There are few who can work for your movie. They are asking what's the amount for signing the contract? Please, don't feel sorry for ragini, sanjana, Riya, Samyukta and spoil your health. This drama will be for few days but what about your health?? Manipal.... I know!! Oops 😩😩 Stay safe.. Be safe.. KM?

Most of them are wearing long custom mask as they don't want to be identified by press, other times these guys are without mask roaming in the city near bus stand, malls etc.

Already convicted by the police before they are convicted by the court. These kinds of parades can be stopped by moving the High Court.

I feel police should be educated under what circumstances different Acts can be invoked. Police need legal education which they lack now. Dr. Kafeel Khan's case us a good example.

The state, police and the public should not bury their heads in the sand, by denying the harsh reality about drugs addiction in our society.... The tragic alleged murder of SSR , has suddenly galvanised the entire nation, about drugs addiction... The police force n the general public should be cautious and very vigilant about the activities of drug users and its cartels, .. The onus is on us to report such cases immediately to the nearest police, for arrest and prosecution of criminals dealing with banned drugs !!!!
