Mangalore: Last Straw - Defect on Varahi Power Transmission Line

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 10: The twin-districts, which have already been reeling under countless and unexpected load sheddings over the last some weeks, plunged into further darkness with the power transmission line from Varahi project developing snags on Friday April 9.

So far, the power cuts were attributed to problems at the Raichur Thermal Power Station, increasing demand for power, shortage of funds, etc. On Friday however, another problem was added to this list, in the form of non-supply of power from Varahi Project because of some defect in the transmission line.

Although a thorough search was undertaken to nail the problem, till late evening on Friday, the officials had failed to pinpoint where exactly the problem had occurred. The power generated was not at all received at this end.

This resulted in unending hours of unscheduled load sheddings in the coastal districts since Friday. The officials feel that the rain, storm and lightning that were experienced on Thursday would have inflicted damage on the transmission lines. They hope to set right the problem on Saturday.

All over the world, and also in bigger ships, there is a engineering practice called "Ring Main System" .

In this system, if one feeder line fails, there is always a alternative line thru defferent route.

KPTCL is also claming to be practicing under a defferent name.

Now, for KPTCL, it looks like, it is only a text book exercise and not put in practice.

This is the height of incompetency. It loks like the coastal twin district should stop paying electricily bills, like other districts, where even the linemen are afraid to go to enquire about the electricity bill.
