Sharjah : Karnataka Sangha Chooses James Mendonca for ‘Mayura’ Award

Sharjah, April 19: James Mendonca, a well known Konkani community leader, entrepreneur and social worker, will be conferred with Karnataka Sangha Sharjah's (KSS) annual 'Mayura' award. James Mendonca is a former president of Mangalore Konkans, and had recently received 'Rachana NRI Entrepenuer of the Year' award in the year 2009. Taking into account his community services in the UAE and his achievement as an entrepreneur, he will be conferred with the ‘Mayura’ award, said president of the Sangha, Noel D'Almeida.
The ‘Mayura’ awards are being given annually to outstanding personalities, taking into account his/her outstanding contributions to the society in the fileds of business, literature, arts or music, irrespective of the caste, creed or religious affiliations of the person concerned.
Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, one of the prestigious registered associations serving the Kannadigas in the UAE, will be celebrating its eighth Annual Day at a function to be held on May 14, 2010 at Gulf Asian English School, Sharjah. This year, with some minor changes, the programme will start at around 4 pm and go on till late evening with soulful music, songs, mimicry, dances etc., to keep the audiences fully engaged and entertained throughout the event. A group of young, talented musicians including famous male and female singers will fly all the way from Karnataka to render various songs in Kannada, Tulu, Konkani and other languages at the said programme. However, Kannada songs will be given more prominence. Junior Rajkumar and Jagdish Achar will enliven the environment with their songs, and they will make the gathering feel the presence of Dr Rajkumar on stage, with the rendering of some highly popular songs that have carved out a permanent place for Dr Rajkumar in the hearts of his fans, in their inimitable style.
As already announced, the KSS, in addition to bringing before the Kannadigas settled in the UAE, a highly talented entertainment team, will also introduce to them a gifted presenter, Navin Koppa, who will keep them rivetted to their seats through out the programme with his talent and skills. The organizers are sure that the programme will be a rich package of music, singing, jokes, variety of dances etc., until late evening.
Karnataka Sangha Sharjah has in the past, supported many social causes including free health check-up camps back home for the masses, free medical check up for its members and their families in the UAE, providing of financial aids to the bereaved families of a few members, and so on. The KSS has announced that it will continue to cherish these ideals, and that the Sangha will continue to stick to the agenda of social service.
KSS expects a large crowd of Kannadigas from all over UAE to witness this mega event and those who are willing to be part of the event are requested to contact any of the members of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah.
