Mangalore : Abbakka Utsav in Ullal from May 22


Mangalore, May 2 (DHNS): Karnataka Tulu Sahithya Academy in association with Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Samithi will organise State-level Veerarani Abbakka Utsav in Ullal on May 22 and 23, said Working President Dinakar Ullal. 

 
Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said that as part of the utsav, various sports and cultural competitions will be held for the public on May 16 at St Sebastian High School, Permannur in Thokkottu. Sports and cultural competitions will be held separately for men and women.

The sports competitions include tug of war, cross country race, throw ball (only for women), folk games like pealing off coconut, ‘madalu heneyudu,’ ‘tying akki mudi.’ The materials for the folk games should be brought by the participants.

In cultural competitions, there will be an elocution contest in Kannada on the topic ‘Women who laid down their lives for independence,’ Group singing (Tulu light music with 3 to 5 members), Tulu skit (any historical, mythological and folk scenes should be enacted for 10 minutes), Kannada quiz (2 members allowed in a team), group folk dance (Use of cassette is banned and songs should be in Tulu), Tulu Paddana (one person).

The winners will be given cash prize, citation during Abbakka Utsav. Those who would like to take part in the competitions should register their names before May 12 with Working President, Veerarani Abbakka Utsav Samithi, Appayya Mansion, Thokkottu, Permannur. For details contact: 2466957.
