Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 3: On Sunday May 2, many places in Dakshina Kannada district received rains. While Sullia and Puttur experienced rains in the evening, Bantwal was soaked in rain from morning to afternoon and again the evening. The city, Ullal etc., got rains at about 8 pm. Power supply to many areas got disrupted as a result. Many places in Karkala taluk got light drizzle on Sunday afternoon.

The rain that started in Sullia taluk at about 4 pm, continued to pour till late night. Electricity supply was hit to several areas. As a bamboo grove came crashing down, houses of Duggappa and B Fatumma in Kulkunda near Subrahmanya were damaged. Sheets and tiles of several houses flew away, while hundreds of areca nut and banana trees collapsed to the ground. As the water flowed on the roads, many vehicles got stranded in the knee-deep slush.

After a huge tree fell across the state highway in Kulkunda, vehicular traffic came to a stand between Subrahmanya and Bilinele for about two hours.
