Udupi: Police Top Brass Oversees Anti-naxal Operations

Udupi, May 5: The personnel of Anti Naxal Force (ANF), with help of the district policemen, launched combing operations continuously since Monday May 3 morning till Tuesday evening in the Westeran Ghat regions of the district. About 500 personnel including some who took part in such an operation for the first time, took part in the operations. The ANF was well-equipped with arms, ambulance, bomb disposal squad, sniffer dogs etc. The operations mainly centred around Mutlupady, Tingale, Kabbinale and Siddapur regions around Hebri, which are known to be frequented by naxals.

Top officials like deputy inspector general of ANF, Amrit Paul, inspector general of police (western range), Gopal Hosur, district superintendent of police, Pravin Madhukar Pawar, Karkala DySP, Santosh Kumar Shetty camped in Hebri to guide the operations.

During the operations, the policemen and personnel of ANF met the tribal people, collected information from them and asked them to cast their votes without fear or favour in the coming gram panchayat elections.

A health check up camp had been organized for those who took part in the operations, at Hebri higher primary school on Tuesday evening.
