Karkala: Sandalwood Smugglers Held

Karkala, May 7: The officials of the forest office here, arrested two persons found to be  smuggling sandalwood pieces on the night of Wednesday May 5. Sandalwood pieces and the Bajaj Pulsar motor bike used by them for the purpose, totally worth about a lac of rupees, were seized from them.

The arrested men have been identified as B Moideen (46), son of N Fakruddin, and Abdul Razack (27), son of Moideen Kunhi, both from Ira village in Bantwal taluk. The two were carrying sandalwood pieces from Kukkundoor in the taluk, towards Manjeshwar, when their vehicle was intercepted. They were produced in the court on Thursday, upon which, they were remanded to judicial custody till May 20.
