Mumbai, Dec 3: A 55-year-old taxi driver lost his life hours after he fell down while chasing his passenger who reportedly had fled with his cellphone. The incident occured at Bhendi Bazaar in the early hours of Sunday, November 29.
The cab driver, Irfan Siddiqui, was about to wrap up on Saturday night after hehad plied his vehicle throughout the night up when the accused, Hameed Shaikh, hired the cab at Masjid Bunder. He said that wanted to go to Null Bazaar but barely a kilometre into the ride, Shaikh asked the cabbie to pull over, saying he had no money which led to an argument between the two.
“Shaikh asked the driver to lend him his mobile to make a call to his house and ask for money,” a police officer said, adding, “When Siddiqui refused to part with his phone, Shaikh snatched it and took to his heels.”
Shaikh, a drug addict, was arrested on Wednesday.
