Mangalore: Rains Continue to Batter Coast

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, May 22: Areas like Sullia, Beltangady and Subrahmanya received continuous rains since Thursday. Other places like Puttur, Bantwal, Kadaba and Vittal got rains from morning to afternoon on Friday. The city as well as Mulky, Kateel etc., received light drizzle on Friday morning, and heavy rain on Saturday May 22 morning.

The entire coast has been experiencing cloudy weather since the last two days. However, to the relief of the people, thunder and lightning were not experienced.

The boats continue to be moored in the Bunder and Malpe ports, because of choppy sea. The fishermen are awaiting the climate to calm down before they can venture into the sea.

In the meantime, the district administration has been told that the cyclone ‘Laila’ has moved to Orissa coast. Still, the coast may receive rains during the next 24 hours. Deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have instructed the officials concerned to keep in readiness men and equipments to take up relief, rescue operations and also to provide alternative arrangements for displaced people if any.
