Mumbai, Dec 6: In the largest reclamation in the city since the 1970s shoreline has extended by 200-400 metres along Priyadarshini Park, Nepean Sea Road and Breach Candy owing to the coastal road.

Tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be used to drill through Malabar Hill for the underground section of the coastal road. The work will start by December 15.

BMC official said "The sea has receded on account of the reclamation being done for the coastal road. We have completed 17% of the physical work in the last four months and spent Rs 1,281 crore, the highest-ever on the coastal road. Work that had come to a complete standstill has moved at a fast pace."

However residents of seafront flats around Nepean Sea Road to Breach Candy are unhappy as sea view will be extended.
