Mangalore, May 28: All the primary and high schools in the state have reopened today to a mixed reaction from the students and teachers alike. While the students feel disappointed about the fact that their summer holidays spent in the company of friends and relatives have ended and the back-breaking routine has begun, they are also enthusiastic about their new classes, new teachers and the likelihood of finding some new faces in their classes.

The schools will use the first two days for cleaning the premises. On May 31, the opening ceremony of the academic year will be held in all schools as per the government instructions. On that day, the schools will be decorated with green festoons and new students will be admitted.

A majority of the teachers are still busy with census work. In some smaller schools, where the number of teachers is handful, predicament of who will open and run the schools during the first few days, has set in. Even though the census work is scheduled to be completed by May 30, in most of the cases, the work has not progressed as expected, because of non-availability of the citizens during the visits by enumerators, or  lack of sufficient information, it is learnt.

Since the last couple of weeks, heavy rush was observed in cloth stores, book stores and shops dealing in footwear, as the parents were seen busy preparing for the Dday. Younger students are seen brimming with pride at the prospect of wearing new dresses, rain coats and carrying new books to school.

    @Russel

Mr. Russel, ...Your comment is RIDICULOUS and utterly SILLY!!! A few other ultra-smart people have also given silly comments without understanding the gist of my comment.

Cleaning the school is not a BASIC NEED OF THE "STUDENTS". It's the school's basic duty to provide a clean and tidy premises and completely the school's business to hire some housekeeping staff for the same. I don't have any objection to studying under mango tree, banyan tree or even a coconut tree!!!
I am just commenting on the present generation schools where the monthly fee of one child comes close to a common man's monthly salary!! The banyan tree schools can do it('coz of lack of funds). No issues...

Now a days we can't expect the things I have mentioned. Because we want our children to study in best of best, so called prestigious schools where we can boast our relatives and neighbors.

Recently I heard of a tiny tot school where mere 2 years old children will be imparted education. I don't want to comment about that because I will not be alive to see the result of this experiment.

Recently Honorable Puranik a VHP leader have started a Guru Kul model Hindu Residential School at the vicinity of Mangalore. Soon I heard Muslims have started their own Residential school, Madarasa Model at the same vicinity of Mangalore. Soon some other will follow suit.??.

However our children are having ample choice sorry we Parents are having ample choice, according to our moneyed or cultural status, to admit our precious children in school in the neighborhood, statehood or abroad. However let us investigate or analyze the dedication of the teaching faculty towards their pupil before we admit our children or siblings rather than looking merely about the Sign board of these schools.

It is nice to watch the students entering the school premises with spic and span uniform.Reminds me of our olden golden schooling days. New Teacher, New books and few New class mates. It was a nostalgic experience.
One of our commentator commented about the domain of education. What is education or who is called educated? Is the one who gathered or mugged up bookish knowledge? Is the one who finds himself a alien amongst illiterates? Is the one who cant stand up in society without the help of his Parents. Is the one who always complain about every thing that surround him? Is the one who cant survive without his Parents or Servants at home? Is the one who always think about him self and his survival not others?
Best education in this world is of GURU KUL NATURE. This education you can't get from name sake Convent Schools or Proxy Cambridge Schools or Proxy Oxford Schools. All are interested to mint money in the name of education and mold our children in to high tech Zombies, who cant stand on their feet straight without any external support.
I can proudly say that we have received best of education from our local church attached or Government Board schools, where we were sitting on hard benches or underneath the shade of the Mango tree. We cleaned our own classes, even lavatories, we planted and watered our own Gardens, we played Lagori, Mara Manga and Kabadi, hence we were strong Mentally and Physically.
    contd. in Part II

    to mr.dilip
i guess we all learnt that schools are our second home.so whats wrong in cleaning it??because of this attitude India especially a place like mangalore is not improving .cleaning a place other than our house is considered a low or so called degraded job.so people WAKE UP and make your children know whateva job it is,every job is great.

Thank you Mr. Dilip for a valued observation. On the contrary, I am terribly shocked and surprised that the school has re-opened today May 28th and most children and students were informed on reopening the new year on May 29th. My daughter from St. Agnes from 6th Std is still here landing on Saturday May 29th will be now seeing her class teacher and here friends only on May 31st. I have a feeling that the students and the parents were not informed of the exact reopening day of the city schools and the students will be blamed for the delay in attending their regular first day specially those who visited abroad. Hence, This is rediculous too.

When we were students we didn't clean our school premises nor do mu children do that now. But if asked to do we would have been more pleased to render our service as our parents taught us to do all house hold chores irrespective of we were boys or girls, all had to do their work so that all can finish the houselhold chores in time without any electrical amenities of these days & with more than 2 children, we think we were more luckier than todays children- we had pure air, water & natural surroundings all human beings long for now.

Good observation Mr. Dilip. It is ridiculous that our little angels are exposed to dust and dirt on their first day at school. A clean school premises is more important than silly decorations.

The article says - "The schools will use the first two days for cleaning the premises". Now please don't tell me that the students will be utilized (FORCED) to do this job. Don't the schools take enough fees? Can't they afford housekeeping staff? This is another startling example of how children are abused for jobs outside their domain. They are already abused physically during Independence day, Republic day, etc.. Hope the concerned department makes note..
