Bengaluru, Dec 28: Law minister J C Madhuswamy said that though the anti-cow slaughter bill is implemented in the state, there will be no prohibition on sale of beef obtained from buffalo and bull.

Speaking to media, after the cabinet meeting on Monday December 28, Madhuswamy said, "Though the new act will be implemented, there is no restriction in selling buffalo and bull meat. Only cow meat sale will be completely banned. In addition, the act will not hinder the activities of leather industry.

"According to the Anti-cow Slaughter Act of 1964, there was provision for slaughtering cow, buffalo and bull which are more than 12 years old. However, according to the recent amendment, cow and ox cannot be slaughtered till their lifetime. Buffalo and Bulls which are more than 13 years old can be slaughtered for meat,” he said.

Minister Prabhu Chauhan had earlier said that as the Anti-cow Slaughter Bill did not get approved in the legislative council, the government has decided to implement the same through ordinance.
