Chikmagalur, Jun 9: S A Sundar (59), a planter and Congress leader, who reportedly was worried over the mounting debt and diseases afflicting his areca nut plantations, committed suicide by shooting himself with his gun on Tuesday June 8 afternoon at his home at Jayapura near Balehonnur. He was the block committee vice president of the Congress.

Although the doctor was summoned immediately, Sundar had died by the time he arrived, as the bullet fired from his gun had entered his head through his neck.

Post mortem was conducted at Koppa government hospital. His son, Chandrakant, filed a police complaint in this regard. Various party leaders including Motamma paid their last respects to the departed soul.
