Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jan 28: In another incident of social media fraud, a person from the city was enticed with a gift of gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 35 lac. The man was made to transfer funds of Rs 1.35 lac to the fraudster's account.

A person claiming to be Reynold Christopher, who had got introduced on Facebook on which the two spoke and chatted, made the other person believe that he would be sending gift worth Rs 35 lac by way of gold and diamond ornaments. On January 18, a lady who introduced herself as a customs officer from Delhi, said that a parcel had been received at the airport and informed that delivery charge of Rs 30,000 would have to be paid.

On January 20, another call came from the same lady. She gave various reasons and asked for money of Rs 1.05 lac to be transferred to different banks. The complainant said that he was cheated after making the fraudsters made him shell out Rs 1.35 lac through transfer to different accounts.

But, if he has done the transfers through various banks, definitely banks must be having the records of fraudsters. Because, to open an account is not easy with the bank. They link aadhar card, they take photos as well as they ask witnesses of those who have account IN that bank.... How the fraudsters can escape? Secondly, why can't these phone companies keep an eye on these fraudsters as well as cyber branch? Who leaks our mobile nos? Even I too get at least ...minimum two/three messages in a fortnight or a month as well as one to two or more calls in a month asking to open the link which they sent or you won money or 15,000/- transferred through neft to your account and so on. By mistake if we open the link in hurry... We are at risk... Because numbers are linked with aadhar and aadhar linked with the bank... Why govt not stopping such nuisance? Govt and phone companies with the help of cyber can stop this.

This is a common mode of scam. Gift...lady customs officer calling and big amount duped! I wonder what cyber crime police doing? Even if if you complain, by the time it reached Noida / Gurugram Police stn jurisdiction, it will be few weeks. These African accent people with the help of Bank employees will take new identity and there are enough people in Q to get fooled. Both educated and less qualified!
