Bengaluru: Big relief for policemen - Compulsory rest day every week

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The policemen from the state are habituated to work without rest for long periods. Towards helping them to relax and enjoy family life, state director general of police (DGP) Praveen Sood, has issued a circular, making it mandatory for every police personnel to be given weekly off every week.

A few policemen had written to the DGP informing him that station house officers have not been allowing policemen to avail their weekly holidays.

Similar order making one day holiday every week compulsory had been issued sometime back but it was not properly followed.

Now, the city police commissioners, range inspector generals of police and district superintendents of the police have been instructed to sanction weekly holidays without fail except under emergency situations.

No human being can work for 24 hrs everyday without proper sleep and rest. That is why policemen and call-centre workers, alike, walk /work around like zombies.

Enough policemen must be employed with enough equipment so that they may work in 3 shifts of 8hrs each with none of them working for more than 10 hours a day(2 hrs overtime at double the rate of normal wages). On very very busy days nobody should be made to work for more than 12 hours at a stretch. Real emergencies are exceptions that cannot always occur.

Unfortunately, our system only waits for emergencies to get them moving and then they are forever working between emergencies due to lack of understanding what preventative policing means.

The seniour ranks should be trained to pay respect to even their junior-most staff , as they are all colleagues.
The outdated Imperial British Raj system of standing at attention, saluting and having 2-4 people to run around the CP, DCP, ACP , PI & SI should all be done away with. All senior ranked officers should learn to start getting out of their high-chairs and doing some work for themselves, thus freeing up valuable staff who can then be assigned policing duties.

Currently the police face nearly 40-50% staffing shortage in addition to shortages of equipment and outdated methods of training and working.

Also, all policemen, from top to bottom irrespective of rank, should start driving their own cars, carrying their own bags and opening their office and car doors themselves. Also, all policemen, from top to bottom irrespective of rank, should learn how to read and write so that one staff only meant for writing called the “Writer” can be freed up from this unnecessary job.

Best practices of “Time management” must be taught to all policemen, from top to bottom , as most of them engage in unnecessary wastage of time, while on duty, and thus their duty hours get unnecessarily overstretched.

Not every police man is a bribe collector or hafta collector.. There are few who work sincerely and their sincerity will never be recognized by their senior officers. Such sincere policemen are not encouraged and there are few in them who be behind seniors like chamchas and do not work at all...they spread stupid news about sincere workers and the seniors believe the chamchas... all over police department is the wors department to work..
