Sullia, Feb 6: In an incident which happened at Aranthodu in the taluk on the night of Thursday, a person suffered grave injuries after he was shot at, thinking him to be an animal. The injured man was one among the four fiends who went hunting together into the forest.

Sathyamurthy, Radhakrishna, Ganesh, and Monappa Poojary from Aranthodu had together visited the nearby forest during late night hours to hunt for animals. They parted ways and went about searching for animals individually.

After hearing some sound and observing torch light from the direction of Satyamurthy who was searching animals, Radhakrishna fired in that direction, believing that the sound was made by some animal. Over six bullets pierced through the abdomen and chest regions of Sathyamurthy. Severely injured Sathamurthy was immediately admitted into KVG Hospital Sullia by his companions.

A case in this regard was registered in Sullia police station. The police have taken the four hunters into custody and are continuing with their inquiry.

It may be recalled that about three years back, a person who was catching fish in a canal at night was fired at by people on hunting trip, as they thought him to be an animal. He had died instantly.
