Mangalore: Prasad Attavar Secures Bail at Last

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 26: Sri Rama Sene state joint convener, Prasad Attavar, has succeeded in securing bail. He was facing the allegation of having links with the underworld. Ramachandra and Amrit Karkera, who too were arrested on the same charges, have also been granted bail.

The district and sessions court granted bail to all the three on Friday June 25, on the condition that they should provide two sureties and personal bonds of Rs 25,000 each. All the three are likely to be released on Monday June 28, after being behind the bars for nearly four months.

The policemen claim that Attavar used to extend assistance to underworld fugitive, Ravi Poojary, in collecting hafta. Attavar was arrested on March 1 this year, on the allegation that had had remitted money to those who were accused of planning to eliminate entrepreneurs, Devnand Shetty and Mendon, under instructions from the underworld. His arrest had sent shock waves through the Sene cadres, and its chief, Pramod Mutalik, had scoffed at the policemen, blaming them of concocting baseless stories to cripple Sene activities.
