Mangalore, Jun 27: Heavy rain in the night and wee hours of the morning damaged property in Alape Padil on Saturday June 26.

A compound wall fell on the house of Ravikumar while he and his family were sleeping soundly inside around 1 am. Loose soil caused the compound wall of a house in a higher area to collapse on Ravi’s house breaking the roof.

Luckily, his wife and 9-year-old daughter were safely sleeping in a corner. But Ravikumar’s leg was stuck under the soil and stones.

With the help of the neighbours, Ravikumar was rescued and taken to the hospital and he had suffered minor injuries.

Nearby, a high compound of an apartment building under construction collapsed damaging a rickshaw and the locals claim that a forest department office was being constructed unplanned.

The arch of the office put weight on the compound which caused the four-year-old compound to fall. The locals said that the forest department office which was supposed to be constructed at a different location was constructed without planning which caused the wall collapse.
