Udupi: Justice Hegde Feels Hurt, Bitter at Mining Mafia's Clout

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 28: Speaking to a newspaper here on Sunday June 27, Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde refuted the Chief Minister’s assertion that no mining mafia is functioning in the state. He revealed that an officer deputed by him to Bellary a few months ago, had been asked by a local bigwig as to whether he had obtained prior permission of the district in-charge minister. He claimed that the officer concerned had conducted some investigations and wanted to book a case. But he was surprised when the local forest official did not pay heed to his request, the local inspector also turned down his plea while the district superintendent of police gave a vague reply that he would see what can be done.

The police inspector had in fact, instead of registering the case, called a local leader, who in turn asked the official whether he had obtained the permission of the district in-charge minister to conduct the investigation, Hegde said. The caller also threatened the official of dire consequences, while the inspected warned him of booking him under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Justice Hegde revealed.

Hegde thought that the illegal storage and export of iron ore at Belekeri and Karwar ports could run into thousands of crores, and a detailed investigation alone can bring out the truth. He said that he decided to resign, after Karwar deputy conservator of forests, R Gokul, who had investigated the Belekeri iron ore scam case, was harassed by minister, Krishna J Palemar. “I hope that my resignation will save the official from further harassment,” he added.

I feel pity for the comments from Hemanath Kumar and Lokanath when they question the integrity of Justice Santhos Hegde..

Please wake up guys. Justice Hegde was showing displeasure last two years for negligence of Governance. Please do some study before passing silly comments on great people (which india desperately need to root out corruption) like Justice Hegde. Sorry guys for mentioning your names. I could not bear it when someone sees conspiracy even in truth

Mr. Hemant Kumar has dragged Congress into the issue. This is the problem with public & the corrupt politicians use such people for their selfish motives. The Public should unite to protest and bring the culprists to book instead of blaming other parties - whether it is congress or BJP. Unfortunately, no party is corruption free in India. Mr. Hegde has done a wonderful job by exposing the truth in his capacity. He has expressed his inability to bring the culprists to book because the racket is well organized & too powerful.

Dear Hemanth Kumar. You are not aware what is going on in Karnataka. Everybody is pleased in Karnataka at the way Lokayukta exposed the corrupt people and those who protect them including our District Minister Sri J.Krishna Palemar. The said Minister has called for closed door meeting of 11 companies which have illegally transported 8 lakh tonnes of iron ore to Bilakeri Port and stolen 5 lakh out of the said irone confiscated by the Lokayukta. Why the District Forest officer should attend the meeting of accused companies against whom he himself has filed a case. If you require a detailed information about the entire episode please go through Vijaya Karnataka of the last seven days.

I strongly feel, this is part of politics played by congress. Where was Mr. Hegde all this time??? Why all of a sudden resignation and then denial of taking it back???? why not arguing in public for getting more power but being in the post???

All this clearly is a planned step to put a black spot of the government. I don't say there is no corruption or black marketing of ore. I am no one to comment on it as I don't know anything but this style of tackling things is not acceptable and no one is pleased except congress followers.

Lokayukt is not suppose to do all this drama. His duty is to make his territory corruption free and if he feels the law are not justifying the current need of the hour, it should be debated and not painted with the letter of resignation.

I strongly oppose this move by Mr. Hegde, even though, I will salute him for this brave and honest work. But, he cannot take people and state for granted for the good work he did or is doing.

Public anger on so called leaders may not hold for long. Magnitude of corruption is so high among the present political leadership, which is making corrupt more and more rich and poor more poorer and exploited. Thereby these anti national and corrupt leaders are pushing public towards the greater civil unrest/destruction.

Well.. Well.. There indeed a very big fish behind this all. No wonder concrete roads at public expense are built right up-till townships and an aspiring lawyer disappears without trace. When such things can happen why not disappearing of the ore ? Hmm.. no smoke without for sure !

Lokayukta's power is not enough to bring such a big fish to book. Public must get on the road to Lok Pal's intervention.
