Mangalore, Jun 28: In an incident that occurred at Tannirbavi in the city on Sunday June 27, a gang armed with lethal weapons, assaulted two young men indiscriminately, injuring them critically in the bargain.

The injured men have been identified as Pratap from Padil and Ashlesh from Naguri in the city. The two, along with some of their other friends, were playing football near a church at Tannirbavi beach on Sunday evening. Reportedly, the ball they were playing hit the legs of a lady, who was sitting by the seashore with her boyfriend.

The group apologized to the lady for the incident and resumed their play. However, the lady’s friend is said to have called a gang over phone to the venue. The gang then hit Pratap and Ashlesh with swords, clubs, knives etc. Both of them, who were left bleeding, are recovering in a private hospital here.

Reportedly, the girl in question told the gang not to beat up the football players, as they had already apologized for their mistake. Deputy superintendent of police, Girish, has ordered for an inquiry. The girl’s companion was angered by the fact that the players had taken him lightly in front of his girl friend, when the former had objected to the ball having brushed the lady’s legs.

A case in this connection was registered in Panambur police station on Sunday. Investigations are on.

    Mr.V.Thomas, Why dont you go to Mangalore and contest for elections?In case if you win the elections you might get an oppurtunity to change the law and order what was framed by your own congress men for independent India.Outdated laws.The central govt should take stepps to ammend the outdated laws inorder to beef up for the modern world and the growing economy.And I believe that that would never happen as long as congress rules the country.

The young generation in our distict has been spoilt by the RSS poisoning communalism into their mind and their parents supporing them. It wasnt like this in our district till 2001.

    @V. Thomas, Bahrain,

    While there is no justification to these assault, your statement "Day by day the situation in Mangalore is deteriorating." is uncalled for.
    How long have you been in Mangalore?
    These incidents have happened in the past as well. It is just that Daijiworld has chosen to publish these as "news" in the internet age which wasnt the case few years back.
