Mumbai, Mar 26: Directors, auditors and chief executive officer of Dewan Housing Finance Corp Ltd (DHFL) were booked for cheating, forgery, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy for cheating a journalist and cine writer of Rs 1 crore at MRA Marg police station. The victim, Rommel Rodrigues (49) had approached the police but they refused to register a case after which he went to court. A case was registered after the court directed police to probe the matter.

An FIR was lodged against DHFL, its chairman and managing director Kapil Wadhawan, firm director Dheeraj Wadhawan, auditors and chartered accountant.

Rodrigues told the court DHFL offered to the public fixed deposit and non-convertible debentures. DHFL and its office-bearer's intention was to float deposit schemes as fixed deposits, promising better returns, offering an interest rate of 8.40 percent per annum, he stated. The FD scheme was engineered to receive lump-sum deposits in their bank account from investors or depositors, he added. He further said that thousands of depositors were in the scheme.
