Kasargod: 16-year-old killed, another injured in ambulance-scooter collision

Kasargod, Apr 14: In an accident that occurred on the evening of Tuesday April 13 at Badiyadka between an ambulance and a scooter, a boy, who was riding pillion, died while the rider of the scooter got injured.

The deceased is Abdul Shahil (16), a resident of Badiyadka Peradala. Abdul Samad (19) of Mookampare, who was riding the scooter suffered injuries. He was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

The accident occurred at Badiyadka circle. The ambulance which was plying to Ukkinadka medical college, hit the scooter. Both the rider and pillion were seriously injured.

Though both were admitted to Kumble hospital immediately, Shahil, who was riding pillion, succumbed to injuries.

A case in this regard is registered at Badiyadka police station.

    I have always thought this is going to happen because these Ambulance drivers think that they are the king of the road. To save one's life some day they will finish dozen with their attitude .They have already done so. It is time for Public to stop this recklessness of driving. Sometimes they unnecessarily blow the siren when they have to reach a lunch. Few years back a Ambulance from Ullal Hospital, Idiot Driver blew His siren near Theresa school junction behind Me. Thinking of Emergency I pulled over and when passed me by I saw Little Children inside Ambulance. My thoughts were that some School vehicle might have met with accident. But near Vas Bakery Ambulance made U-Turn and went inside St. Agnes Compound. He was transporting little Children inside the Ambulance which carries Sick People. So now I hope DCP will conduct some studies and impose some regulation on these Ambulances, specially when they pass through Busy Junction . Also it will be nicer if they stop blowing their siren when they are caught in traffic jam as we cannot jump out of their way like a frog. High DB Sirens damage Our hearing ability until traffic clears. Now this driver saved one and killed one and left one more disabled.

    I fully agree with you.Many ambulance drivers are rash, they are supposed to save lives not kill.They should follow all traffic rules .

    Agree on the reckless attitude - Ambulance means basically there are most essential facilites ( HOPEFULLY ) available- to provide emergency aid - / golden hour as it is said - So there is some breathing time as compared to risking outside lives etc -
